The Plan B Books Self-Publishing Assistance Program
There are several stages in the publishing process, some are obvious, some are not.
If you combine services, the price per service will be reduced to make a nice, customized package for you.

Write the book. Yeah, I know, obvious. But Plan B Books can’t help you until you have something we can work with.

Proofreading and Editing – We will read, read and reread your book until we hammer out all the typos, grammatical
errors, suggest ways to help the flow of the book and then re-read it some more to make sure it is the best it can
be. We charge a fee of $1 per page of your book for this service by itself, $0.50 when bundled with other services.

Legal/ISBN – The US Copyright office will register your copyright for the current price of $45 if you file yourself.
Plan B will do this for you for the current price of registration plus $10 filing fee. The book will be registered to
you, not Plan B. By doing this, we guarantee your copyright is filed correctly and in a timely manner. All published
books also need an ISBN number registered to an authorized publisher. Plan B Books has it’s own ISBN logbook, and
will assign your book one of our numbers for a fee of $30. That will also make your book an official “Plan B Book”
and it will benefit from being under the umbrella of a recognized independent press.

Choosing a printer – This determines most of your costs. You decide how you want the book to look, what you are willing
to spend and how quickly you want your book in print and we will locate printers that we feel can deliver what you
want. You make the final decision regarding your printer.

Layout – Believe it or not, book cannot be printed as it is written. Considerations must be made for chapter headings,
indexes, title pages, artwork, legal pages and binding styles. Plan B Books will arrange your book to suit it’s subject
and target readers as well as getting it formatted to the printer’s specifications. We charge a fee of $2 per page
for this service by itself, or $1 per page if bundled with other services. Again, you have final say in the appearance
of your book.

Printing – We prepare your book to the printer’s specifications, help you complete your printing contract and send y
our book off to print. You will be responsible for all printing costs. At this point, we also suggest you have a good
idea of where and how you want to market and sell your book.

Marketing, fulfillment and book sales- Plan B Books can be sold in one of several ways, or all of them. We can go
through the process of getting your book sold in stores, we can list it on sites like Amazon or Google Books, and
we can sell it on the Plan B books website. You also have to decide if you want to promote your book on your own or
have Plan B Books figure out the best way to reach your audience for you. If Plan B is promoting and selling your
book for you on our site, we take only 25% of your cover price to provide for website costs, promotional materials,
shipping costs and our time. That’s significantly less than other bookstores or online bookseller’s commissions. If
we are only promoting your book, a flat fee of $25 per month will apply for as long as you desire our assistance.
If you decide you want to do it on your own, as soon as the books arrive from the printer’s, our professional
relationship will end. However, we will always be here to answer questions and give advice.
